Love Valley
Famous for its tall, distinctive fairy chimneys, Love Valley is easily accessible from Göreme. A relatively short and easy walk with dramatic scenery.
Ihlara Valley
A lush canyon carved by the Melendiz River, Ihlara Valley offers a different side of Cappadocia — green, cool, and filled with Byzantine cave churches hidden in the cliff walls. The full trail is around 14km, but shorter sections are equally enjoyable.
Pigeon Valley (Güvercinlik Vadisi)
Named after the thousands of pigeons that nest in carved dovecotes in the cliffs (their droppings were historically used as fertilizer). A pleasant walk between Göreme and Uçhisar.
Underground Cities
Beneath Cappadocia's surface lie extraordinary ancient underground cities. Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı are the most impressive — multi-level subterranean complexes that once sheltered thousands of people, complete with stables, kitchens, wineries, and ventilation shafts. Exploring them is a remarkable experience, though not recommended for those with claustrophobia.
Horseback Riding
Exploring the valleys on horseback is a wonderful way to cover more ground while experiencing Cappadocia's magical landscape. Numerous operators in Göreme offer guided rides through the valleys, ranging from one-hour introductory treks to full-day excursions.
